CCTimes Editorial

First paragraph: Congress and President Barrack Obama have the best chance since the early years of the Clinton administration to fix our nation’s health care system. This time, let’s not waste the window of opportunity.

Our point: Are the editorial writers of the Contra Costa Times willing to give up their existing health care coverage for a system provided by the same government that provides us Medicare and the Post Office? In fact, we challenge the editorial writers to find us one thing outside of the military that the US government does well enough to warrant the confidence they express in this editorial.

We find it charming that these ‘geniuses’ writing the editorials take to heart every statistic uttered by a fear-mongering president who just jacked up the Bush deficit by 300% and promised us that unemployment would NOT go over 8% if the ’stimulus bill’ was passed quickly. I guess the editors haven’t seen that failure because they’re too busy wringing their hands over our medical system (which draws patients from all over the world; if only most government programs failed like that!).

And we here at CCTimesWatch find the charge of greed against hospitals, doctors and insurance companies a hoot. Is the Contra Costa Times distributed for free?  It is not the role of the government OR the newspaper to set a doctor’s salary.

Fortunately, the latter part of the editorial started to point out some of the more common sense approaches to reducing medical costs, but government control is a recipe for disaster.
