Historic nomination (5/27/09, Front Page)

Ben Feller, AP
Does anyone recall this headline for Attorney General nominee Alberto Gonzalez? Nope. Any suggestions as to why the first Hispanic nominee for US Attorney General did not get this headline? Anti-Republican bias at the CCTimes?
Does anyone recall this headline for Secretary of State nominee Colin Powell? Nope. Any ideas why the first black [...]

New credit card law has pitfalls (5/23/09, Page AA1)

Dave Carpenter, AP
Wow. Hats off to the CCTimes for allowing this piece to run. The headline is accurate, the subline is accurate and the story is accurate. This stupid piece of legislation is going to punish the working stiffs more than the credit card companies. You can tell a disaster in the making when you [...]

Reality of homegrown terror exposed in N.Y. (5/22/09, Front Page)

Michael Hill & Jim Fitzgerald, AP
Holy cow! Can you believe how far to the left Hill and Fitzgerald go to “show” these 4 Muslims as a non-threat? The implication by the two writers is that we don’t have to worry about Muslim terrorists because they’re incompetent. Heaven forbid we give credit to the FBI to [...]

Higher education braces for hefty cuts (5/21/09, Front Page)

Matt Krupnick, CCTimes
Matt opens with: “More than a quarter of a million students will be shut out of California’s community colleges because of state budget cuts, college leaders said Wednesday.”
Fair enough.
But no where in the story does Matt chase down why spending has grown to such a high level. How about salaries and benefits for [...]

Picturing Solidarity (5/16/09, page A3)

The incompetent Mark DeSaulnier is shown in this campaign rally photo surrounded by his henchmen union thugs showing their support for the more accurately named “Employee NO Choice Act” (in liberal circles known as Employee Free Choice Act). Only a liberal newspaper like the Contra Costa Times would print something like [...]

U.S. soldiers kill boy after attack (5/10/09, page AA6)

Ali Abass and Jack Donlon, McClatchy
This headline is incredibly misleading. A 12 year old boy apparently is paid to thorw a grenade at American soldiers and this headline implies they killed him for the fun of it. Typical liberal slant on the news from Iraq. At least the reporters covered both sides of the story.

Propositions written to please political players (5/4/09, page A7)

Shane Goldmacher, Sacramento Bee
This excellent analysis of the upcoming California special election SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE FRONT PAGE.
Shane does a great job explaining why oil companies, teachers and casino tribes are all supporting the tax increase measures.
