Kucinich questions Bush’s mental faculties (10/31/07, page A13)
AP
I don’t see how you can publish this Kucinich quote and not the follow up questions. Kucinich, who himself is of questionable mental health, accuses President Bush of losing his mind because Bush claimed a nuclear Iran could precipitate World War III.
I cannot believe the Philedelphia Inquirer did not ask Congressman Kucinich what he thinks will happen [...]
Iraq moves to rein in contractors (10/31/07, Front Page)
Steve Hurst, AP
Wow, can you believe the excitement at the Contra Costa Times over this? “Finally, some bad news from Iraq that embarrasses Bush.”
Instead of reporting on the Front Page (above the fold) that our men and women are doing a fantastic job following the lead of “Betray Us” Petreaus, they find a false story [...]
Governor wins praise for handling of blazes (10/30/07, page A6)
Laura Kurtzman, AP
Hey Laura, President Bush also won praise for his actions. The only mention you make of the president is to slap him down because of the “differences” between the fires and Katrina. Sad.
1. Democratic Senator Diane Feinstein praised President Bush for his response to the fires.
2. Laura mentioned how Katrina affected “90,000 square miles [...]
Candidates to have access to public funds in ‘08 (10/29/07, page A3)
Katherine Tam, CCTimes
This story is regarding the already poorly run City of Richmond. As if they didn’t have enough incompetence, now they will have inexperienced people leading the city.
Here’s what’s going to happen with this public financing concept: Those that are union supported will win easily because they already have the people to walk precincts, they [...]
EPA should let states set tougher emission rules (10/28/07, page A21)
CCTimes Editorial
I try to avoid commenting on these, but this one reflects the poor thought process going on at the Contra Costa Times these days.
In no way did the editorial writers consider the effect of allowing California to once again create their own emissions rules. The editorial managed to:
1) Ignore the effect on the poor [...]
Plan to fight warming may start with solo drivers (10/27/07, Front Page)
Erik N. Nelson, CCTimes
Erik did a good job reporting the facts, but with a little extra work could have brought this whole “solo driver” point home:
“In 2003, gasoline use in the U.S. accounted for 1,141 MMT (million metric tons) or 20 percent of our total carbon dioxide emissions. If Congress acts today to outlaw the use [...]
Environmentalists covering their butts on California fires (10/27/07, not in CCTimes)
Back in 2003, JunkScience.com has an interesting analysis of the California fires.
Are environmentalists to blame for the size of this year’s fire?Â
And are they using global warming to cover their butts since it was truly their land management policies that allowed the fire to spread so far so fast?
Check it out. You won’t see this in [...]
